Vibewire is a great, dynamic non-profit setup in 2000. I think I heard about them in 2006, but they relaunched this year:

I helped out with a quick redesign of their forum landing page mid last week, hopefully making it easier for young people to get involved in some of the great discussions going on there. Just a few simple changes, and could’ve used a bit more work – but was a definite improvement, and hopefully get to do a bit more with these guys when I’ve got the time.

If you haven’t heard of them yet, check out the forums and click the vibewire logo for the rest of their site content.

After letting the call for submissions pass for the past two years, I’ve got my act together and entered this year’s National Youth Week, the government’s annual award recognising upcoming talent in creative fields, with this photo from 2008, a work capturing my photographic and political interests and probably a favourite coming out of my Photomedia major at COFA.

Quiet revolution, 2008

Celebrating freedom, creativity, and vibrance through a single movement, an expression of both anger and hope, Quiet revolution shows a colourful quiet protest against China’s repression of its people. The photo is representative of Australians moving for freedom of expression and identity, capturing a moment with focus on China’s hosting of the 2008 Olympics, when attention was being drawn on their commitment to improving Human Rights made in their Olympics bid.

To make a difference you’ve got to make a move, use your freedom to work towards the world we want to see.

Back in March I went to work developing ‘Stimulate Change’, primarily a facebook application but with a standalone website front-end, to help facilitate the ‘$50 of my $950′ concept.

The $50 of my $950 campaign was the brainchild of two friends, Su-Min Lim and Bart Cummings, and took off with help of Bobby Chen and a bit of tech knowledge and online strategising help I was able to bring. The idea, sparked from the opportunity presented by students receiving a lump sum payment, was to direct a percentage of this towards a very real area in need of funds.

As of early May we’ve raised $1,500 for the NSW Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council, 100% of which went direct to funding projects to help close the gap on Indigenous Health. A certainly modest sum, but not bad for 4 students who’d otherwise of had perhaps 10% of that to offer.

You can check out the Stimulate Change Facebook application and AH&MRC will continue to gratefully accept donations.
